At its third edition, Prometeo is aimed at collecting knowledge about social, economic and health indicators at a national and local level alike.

Among the innovations of 2001, there is a pilot study about "hospital discharge sheets", based on Local Health Authority membership of all patients hospitalised in 1998. Starting from an exam of 500 thousand deaths, the survey covers 12 million patients hospitalised each year.

Prometeo 2001 was supported by the Tor Vergata University of Rome, Public Health Department, Chair of Hygiene; the National Statistics Agency, Central Office for Enquiries on Social Institutions; the ILESIS, Research and Training for Health Systems, The NEBO Ricerche Company and Farmindustria.
