Riassunto Punto centrale della prevenzione delle infezioni associate a catetere venoso centrale è rappresentato da uno scrupoloso lavaggio delle mani e dal rispetto delle norme di buona prassi igienica. La crescente consapevolezza dell’importanza di tali fattori ha evidenziato la necessità di attuare strategie multidisciplinari che coinvolgessero non soltanto gli operatori sanitari, impegnati nell’inserimento e nella gestione del CVC, ma anche gli stessi pazienti rendendoli in grado di attuare le misure di igiene personale necessarie alla cura del proprio accesso vascolare.

Summary Crucial points in the prevention of intravascular catheter-related infections include scrupulous handwashing combined with the use of proper aseptic technique. Growing awareness of the importance of these factors has highlighted the need for multidisciplinary strategies involving healthcare workers, who insert and mantain intravascular catheters, as well as patients, who should be trained in the adoption of appropriate personal hygiene measures essential for proper catheter care.

Résumé Le point central de la prévention des infections associées au cathéter intra
vasculaire (CIV) est représente par un méticuleux lavage des mains et par l’usage des règles d’hygiène. La croissant conscience de l’importance de ces facteurs a mis en évidence la nécessite de réaliser des stratégies multidisciplinaires avec l’implication non seulement des techniciens de la santé, occupées dans l’insertion et la gérance du CIV, mais aussi des patients mêmes qui pourrait être mis en mesure de réaliser des comportements d’hygiène personnel indispensable pour le traitement de son propre accès vasculaire.
